Dr Richard Moore is working on the history of the British nuclear weapons programme.

He has published a book The Royal Navy and Nuclear Weapons (Frank Cass 2001), based on his PhD thesis for the University of Hull; and articles on British global war studies ( Journal of Strategic Studies , June 1997); British nuclear weapons overseas ( Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists , Jan/Feb 2001, available online here); the relative US and UK contributions to British nuclear weapons design ( Defence Studies , Summer 2004); the political and military background to Britain's Polaris improvement programme, Chevaline (Proceedings of the Royal Aeronautical Society's conference on Chevaline, 24 October 2004); and British surface-to-air guided weapons ( Prospero , Spring 2005).
His wider research interests are in British and Russian defence, naval and nuclear history.
